Madhurima Sawant, a young and talented player, has demonstrated her skills by defeating the fourth seed Danielle Daley of Britain 7-6(1), 7-5 in the first round of the $15,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament in Valladolid, Spain. This win showcases Sawant’s growing strength and potential in the world of women’s tennis. Not only did she shine in singles, but she also made it to the doubles quarterfinals in partnership with Liu Min of China.
Alongside Sawant’s success, other Indian tennis players have also secured notable victories. In the €74,825 Challenger tournament in Porto, Portugal, the doubles pair of Siddhant Banthia and Tennyson Whiting (USA) defeated Alexander Donski (Bul) and Tiago Pereira (Por) 6-2, 6-4. In the same category, but held in Manacor, Spain, the doubles pair of Alberto Campos (Esp) and Michael Geerts (Bel) defeated Joshua Paris (GBR) and Ramkumar Ramanathan 3-6, 7-6(5), [10-7]. In Zhangjiagang, China, Rithvik Choudhary and Arjun Kadhe secured a doubles victory against Philip Henning and Kris Van Wyk (RSA) 6-3, 6-7(3), [10-8] in the $82,000 Challenger tournament.
Meanwhile, in the men’s $25,000 ITF tournament in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand, Sai Karteek Reddy paired with Jirat Navasirisomboon (Tha) to win 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 in the first round. The duo also achieved a doubles victory in the pre-quarterfinals, defeating Koki Matsuda and Ryota Tanuma (Jpn) 6-3, 3-6, [10-7].
The $15,000 ITF men’s tournament in Tashkent, Uzbekistan also witnessed strong performances from Indian players. Aryan Shah emerged victorious against Taiyo Yamanaka (Jpn) 7-5, 6-1 in the first round. Other notable wins include Daniel Khazime over Parth Aggarwal 6-3, 7-6(4), Adil Kalyanpur against Anton Chekhov 6-4, 6-4, Petr Bar Biryukov against Bharath Kumaran 6-4, 6-3, and Dev Javia against Eyal Shumilov (Isr) 6-3, 6-1. In the doubles pre-quarterfinals, Alexandr Binda (Ita) and Maxim Shin (Uzb) defeated Kazuma Kawachi (Jpn) and Rishi Reddy 6-3, 2-6, [10-3].
In the women’s $40,000 ITF tournament in Jinan, China, Riya Bhatia faced a tough match against Wang Jiaqi (Chn), losing 6-2, 6-1 in the first round. The $25,000 ITF women’s tournament in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand saw Vaidehi Chaudhari defeating Paris Corley (USA) 6-2, 6-4 in the first round. Other wins in the same tournament included Momoko Kobori (Jpn) against Shrivalli Bhamidipaty 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-1, and Monique Barry (Nzl) against Vaishnavi Adkar 6-0, 6-2.
In the $15,000 ITF women’s tournament in Monastir, Tunisia, Zeel Desai triumphed over Eva Zabolotnaia (Mda) 6-0, 6-1, and Tanisha Kashyap defeated Marija Semenistaja (Lat) 6-4, 2-0 (retired) in the first round.
