In a significant move for Indian wrestling, Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and Geeta Phogat have announced the launch of the Wrestling Champions Super League (WCSL). This ambitious project aims to not only elevate the sport in India but also establish Indian wrestlers as global forces to be reckoned with.
The WCSL promises to be a world-class international league where India’s top wrestling talent will face off against the best in the world. This highly competitive environment, coupled with expert supervision and top-notch support systems, is designed to nurture and refine the skills of Indian wrestlers.
The announcement was made on X (formerly Twitter) by Sakshi Malik, who stated, “The WCSL, a world class international league, will skill & strengthen our wrestlers to dominate the sport globally by taking on the world’s best in a hyper competitive, expertly supervised environment with best-in-class support systems in place.”
The league has already secured a high-profile participant in Paris Olympics bronze medalist Aman Sehrawat. Sehrawat, who shares the vision of the WCSL, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This league is a very commendable initiative which will help Indian wrestling greatly and therefore I want to be a part of it and support it fully.”
Sakshi, known for her role in leading the wrestlers’ protest against Brij Bhushan Singh, announced her retirement from wrestling last year. However, her passion for the sport remains strong, and she is now dedicated to building a platform for future generations of Indian wrestlers to achieve greatness.
The WCSL represents a significant investment in the future of Indian wrestling, and with the participation of top athletes like Aman Sehrawat, the league is poised to make a major impact on the global wrestling scene.
