Indian Youth’s Ignorance of National Song Sparks Outrage

A video by digital creator Rehan Khan has exposed a concerning lack of knowledge about India’s National Song among young Indians. Khan asked random young people who had written Vande Mataram, and the results were alarming. Many confused it with the National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana, which was written by Rabindranath Tagore. One young woman even claimed that popular singer Arijit Singh had written the National Song.

The video, which was shared on social media, triggered a wave of anger and disappointment among users. Many criticized the young people for their lack of knowledge about their own history and national symbols. Some commented that they felt ashamed of the youth’s ignorance, while others expressed their frustration with the apparent disconnect from India’s rich cultural heritage.

The National Song, Vande Mataram, was adopted by the Indian National Congress in 1937. It was originally written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, a renowned Bengali novelist, in 1882. The poem, published in his novel ‘Anandmath’, played a pivotal role in the Indian independence movement, gaining further significance when Tagore recited it at a Congress session in 1896.

The video highlights a concerning trend of disengagement with India’s history and national symbols among the younger generation. It has sparked a critical conversation about the importance of education, cultural awareness, and preserving national heritage.
