A piece of cinematic history has just been sold for a record-breaking price. Harrison Ford’s iconic brown felt fedora from the second Indiana Jones film, ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’, has fetched a whopping $630,000 (approximately €570,000) at a Propstore Los Angeles auction. This price far surpassed the pre-auction estimate of $250,000 to $500,000, making it the most expensive Indiana Jones hat ever sold.
This coveted piece of movie memorabilia was part of the collection of the late stunt performer Dean Ferrandini, who doubled for Harrison Ford in the film. The fedora was specifically crafted for the second installment of the Indiana Jones series and has been authenticated by Prop Store, matching film shots, production stills, and behind-the-scenes footage.
The previous record for the most expensive Indiana Jones fedora was held by a hat from the original film, ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark,’ which sold for $500,000 (€452,000) in 2015.
The fedora was just one of the highlights of Propstore’s auction, which included a plethora of film and television memorabilia from beloved franchises like Star Wars, Scream, Harry Potter, and James Bond. Other noteworthy items sold at the auction included an imperial scout trooper helmet from the 1983 Star Wars film for $315,000 (€285,000), a light-up wand used by Daniel Radcliffe in the Harry Potter series for $53,550 (€48,400), a suit worn by Daniel Craig in the 2012 James Bond film for $35,000 (€31,600), and a Star Trek: Voyager Strafleet Combadge for $6,300 (€5,700).
The Propstore auction took place in Los Angeles from August 15th to 18th, captivating collectors and fans alike with the opportunity to own a piece of cinematic history.
