India’s campaign at the Korea Open Super 500 badminton tournament came to an end on Wednesday with the exits of Ashmita Chaliha, Malvika Bansod, and Aakarshi Kashyap in the opening round.
Ashmita, currently ranked 53rd in the world, faced a tough challenge against Pornpawee Chochuwong, the world number 17. The match was a lopsided affair, with Chochuwong dominating from start to finish, winning 21-8, 21-13.
Aakarshi Kashyap also suffered defeat, losing 21-15, 21-15 to Denmark’s Line Christophersen.
Malvika Bansod, ranked 41st in the world, put up a valiant effort against Denmark’s Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt, ranked 18th. Malvika won the first game 21-18, but Kjaersfeldt fought back to win the next two games 21-15 and 21-17, ending Malvika’s tournament run.
In the mixed doubles competition, the Indian pair of Ayush Raj Gupta and Sruti Swain lost 21-7, 21-12 to the Korean duo of Ko Sung Hyun and Eom Hye Won in their opening round match.
With the losses of all their singles and mixed doubles players, India’s participation in the Korea Open has come to an end. The tournament continues with the remaining players competing for the title.
