The rowing events at the Paris Olympics are set to begin on July 27 and conclude on August 3, with all competitions taking place at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium. This state-of-the-art facility, inaugurated in 2019, will serve as the hub for both rowing and canoe-kayak events.
The Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium, designed by architects Auer+Weber+Assoziierte, is a remarkable complex built around the existing Vaires-Torcy leisure base. It features a scenic lake, a white-water stadium, and a vibrant living area, complete with landscaped rooftop access for leisurely walks. The 4,400 square meter sports center encompasses a range of facilities, including the impressive white-water stadium with its two courses spanning 300 and 150 meters. Additionally, there is a 2,200-meter course dedicated to rowing and sprint canoe-kayak events, equipped with a dedicated finishing tower. To cater to the needs of athletes, the stadium boasts a sports medicine center, a well-equipped weight-training center, various administrative spaces, a media center, and a dedicated training and accommodation center.
India will be represented in the rowing event by Balraj Panwar, a promising athlete who narrowly missed out on an Asian Games medal in Hangzhou. Panwar’s participation marks a significant moment for Indian rowing, showcasing the nation’s growing talent pool in the sport.
