India’s Foreign Policy: From Diffidence to Confidence

India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, spoke at the forum titled ‘Foreign Policy The India Way: From Diffidence To Confidence’ in Hyderabad on April 23. He discussed how the attack on Pakistan’s terror outfit significantly impacted India’s foreign policy. He explained that after the Uri and Balakot operations, India began to press Pakistan on terrorism, marking a shift from diffidence to confidence in its foreign policy.

Dr. Jaishankar highlighted the challenge posed by terrorism, particularly for India, which he believes has been deeply affected by it over the past several decades. He emphasized that India’s counter-terrorism policy was influenced by the cost of attacks on Pakistani territory. However, with the Uri and Balakot operations, India began to press Pakistan on terrorism, leading to a shift in its foreign policy approach from diffidence to confidence.

Dr. Jaishankar’s speech underscores the evolution of India’s foreign policy in recent years, particularly in its response to terrorism and its relationship with Pakistan.
