The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared that the heatwave gripping India has finally subsided. However, the respite from scorching temperatures comes with the arrival of heavy rainfall across several regions.
The IMD has issued a red rain alert for Coastal Karnataka for June 27, warning of intense rainfall in the area. Northwest India is also expected to see an increase in rainfall activity from today, with heavy to very heavy rainfall predicted for the plains of northwest India between June 28 and 30.
An orange alert has been issued for Konkan and Goa from June 27 to July 1, indicating the potential for significant rainfall in these regions. Isolated very heavy rainfall is expected in Coastal Karnataka, Saurashtra & Kutch on June 27 and 28. Heavy rainfall is also predicted for South Interior Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, north Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and West Madhya Pradesh on June 27.
The IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall along the West Peninsular Coast for the next five days. Isolated very heavy rainfall is likely over East Rajasthan from June 27 to July 1. Uttarakhand and Odisha are expected to receive very heavy rainfall from June 27 to June 29, followed by East Uttar Pradesh on June 28 and 29, and Bihar on June 29. Heavy rainfall is predicted for Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh on June 29 and 30.
Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Northwest and east India during the next five days.
The IMD also stated that conditions are favorable for the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Rajasthan; remaining parts of MP, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar; some more parts of UP, Chandigarh; and some parts of Haryana, Delhi, and Punjab.
Regarding temperatures, the IMD predicts that there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures over Northwest India during the next 24 hours. However, a decrease of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius is expected in subsequent days.
