India’s Manish Narwal Wins Silver at Paris Paralympics

India’s para shooter Manish Narwal showcased his resilience and determination on Friday at the Paris Paralympics, winning a silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event. Narwal, who initially faced a setback and dropped to sixth place, persevered and climbed his way back to secure the second position. He finished with a score of 234.9 points.

The gold medal in the event went to South Korea’s Jeongdu Jo, who scored 237.4 points. China’s Chao Yang claimed the bronze medal with 214.3 points.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Manish for his outstanding achievement. This silver medal adds to India’s impressive medal haul at the Paralympics, with Avani Lekhara already securing a gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle final earlier in the day. Shooter Mona Agarwal also won a bronze medal in the same event. Furthermore, para sprinter Preethi Pal added another bronze to India’s tally in the Women’s T35 100m race.

India’s performance at the Paris Paralympics has been remarkable, with the country securing two medals in the women’s 10m air rifle event right from the start. Indian shooters dominated the top three positions in the final, with Avani Lekhara ultimately clinching the gold.

India has sent its largest-ever Paralympic contingent to Paris, consisting of 84 athletes competing across 12 sports. The country had its most successful Paralympic outing in Tokyo 2020, winning a total of 19 medals, including five golds, eight silvers, and six bronzes. The current performance in Paris promises to be even more successful, with Narwal’s silver medal being a testament to the dedication and skill of India’s athletes.
