Gagan Narang, the London Games bronze medalist shooter and India’s Chef de Mission at the upcoming Paris Olympics, has showered praise on the country’s para athletes for their outstanding performance at the ongoing Paralympics. The Indian Paralympic contingent has already achieved a historic milestone by securing a record 25 medals in this edition of the quadrennial event. This impressive haul includes 5 gold, 9 silver, and 11 bronze medals, propelling India to a commendable 16th position in the overall medal tally.
Narang, speaking on the sidelines of the Media Photojournalist Trust’s photo exhibition at the Press Club of India, expressed his immense pride in the para athletes’ achievements. He highlighted their remarkable performance, surpassing the medal tally from the Tokyo Paralympics. Narang’s statement reflects the nation’s collective joy and admiration for the para athletes who are making India proud on the global stage.
When asked about his analysis of the upcoming Paris Olympics, Narang revealed that he is yet to delve into it, stating, “I haven’t done my analysis of the Paris Olympics yet, everybody has spoken about it. But the most important thing right now is that in the Paralympics we are performing well, we are on the 16th position today. A fantastic effort by our Paralympians. They surpassed the Tokyo Paralympics medal tally, looking forward to more medals.” This statement emphasizes the current focus on celebrating the achievements of the para athletes at the Paralympics before shifting attention to the preparations for the Paris Olympics.
