India’s Paralympic shooting team is brimming with confidence as they prepare to compete at the Paris Games in 2024. Led by Tokyo gold medalist Manish Narwal, the team is determined to surpass their impressive performance in Tokyo, where they won two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.
The 10-member contingent, including rifle ace Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal, will be heading to the Chateauroux Centre near Paris for a training camp from August 30th. Narwal, who won the 50m pistol (SH1) gold in Tokyo, will be competing in the 10m air pistol event in Paris.
“Our preparations have been intense, and we are eager to give our best shot in Paris,” said Narwal. “We aim to surpass our previous performance and bring more medals home.”
The team’s focus will be on Avani Lekhara, who made history in Tokyo by becoming the first Indian woman shooter to win two Paralympic medals. The 19-year-old from Jaipur won gold in both the 10m air rifle and the 50m rifle 3-positions (SH1). She will be looking to repeat her gold medal performances in Paris.
The Paralympic Committee of India is aiming for a record-breaking medal haul in Paris, with the shooting team expected to play a significant role in achieving this target. The team’s performance will be closely watched as they strive to make India proud on the world stage.
