India’s Patel Duo Falls Short in Paris Paralympics Table Tennis Quarterfinals

India’s hopes of a medal in the women’s doubles 10 category at the Paris Paralympics 2024 were dashed on Friday as Bhavina Patel and Sonalben Patel lost their quarterfinal match to South Korea’s Jung Young A and Moon Sunghye. The Indian duo, despite a valiant effort, ultimately succumbed to the strong South Korean team, losing the match 1-3.

The match was a tight affair, with both pairs battling fiercely for every point. The first two games went to the South Korean duo, with the scores being 5-11 and 6-11. While the Indians started the second game strongly, they were unable to sustain the momentum and lost the game.

Bhavina Patel, who won a silver medal in the class 4 category at the Tokyo Paralympics, and her partner Sonalben, showed their resilience in the third game, taking the lead and securing a hard-fought 11-9 win. However, the South Koreans, fueled by their previous victories, proved too strong in the fourth game, winning it decisively 11-6.

The defeat, which came after a 39-minute battle, marks the end of Bhavina and Sonalben’s journey at the Paris Paralympics. The Indian pair will now look to regroup and prepare for their next challenge, aiming to bring home more glory in future tournaments.
