The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has officially announced the Indian Shotgun team for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The squad, consisting of five talented athletes, will be striving to secure India’s second Olympic medal in the discipline.
In the men’s Trap category, Prithviraj Tondaiman will represent India. Rajeshwari Kumari has earned her place in the women’s Trap event. Anantjeet Singh Naruka will be India’s sole representative in the men’s Skeet competition, while Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan will compete in the women’s Skeet. Notably, Maheshwari and Anantjeet will also form India’s only pair in the Skeet Mixed Team event, making its debut at the Paris Games.
This will be the first Olympic experience for all five athletes. Kr. Sultan Singh, Secretary General, NRAI, expressed confidence in the team’s capabilities, stating, “There was intense competition for places and things could have changed in case some shooters had medalled at the recently concluded Lonato World Cup. But we believe that we have a great Shotgun team, which has won the highest ever spots for India at any Games and certainly a second Olympic medal in the discipline looks a strong possibility.”
He also mentioned that the inclusion of Shreyasi Singh in the women’s Trap event is pending final approval from the ISSF (International Shooting Sport body). The NRAI has requested a quota swap for Singh, and her inclusion in the team is contingent upon receiving the necessary clearance from the ISSF.
