India’s Solaimalai/Sumathy Fall Short in Paralympics Mixed Doubles Bronze Medal Match

India’s hopes for a bronze medal in the mixed doubles SH6 badminton event at the Paris Paralympics were dashed on Monday as the duo of Sivarajan Solaimalai and Nithya Sre Sumathy fell short against Indonesia’s Subhan and Rina Marlina. The match, played at La Chapelle Arena Court 3, concluded in a decisive 0-2 loss for the Indians (17-21, 12-21), marking India’s second fourth-place finish at the Games.

While the first game showcased a competitive display from the Indian pair, the second game tilted heavily in favor of the Indonesians. The defeat followed the duo’s heartbreaking semifinal loss to the American pair of Miles Krajewski and Jayci Simon, where they fought hard but ultimately lost 1-2 (21-17, 14-21, 13-21).

Despite the disappointment in the mixed doubles event, Nithya Sre Sumathy still has a chance to secure a bronze medal in the women’s singles event. She will face off against Indonesia’s Marlina, her mixed doubles opponent, later today in a bid for the podium. Sivarajan Solaimalai, unfortunately, was unable to advance from the group stage in the men’s singles event.
