The Sports Ministry’s Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) has taken a significant step in supporting India’s Olympic athletes by approving financial assistance for their training and participation in the upcoming Paris Games.
One of the key beneficiaries is HS Prannoy, an Olympic-bound badminton player. The MOC has approved his proposal for financial assistance towards his trainer Rohan George Mathews’ expenses during his stay in Paris. Under the ministry’s Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), Mathews will receive funding for airfare, boarding and lodging, daily fees, visa fees, miscellaneous expenses such as local transportation and medical expenditures. He will also receive an OPA (Olympic Preparation Allowance) for the duration of his stay.
Prannoy and Lakshya Sen are the sole representatives of India in the men’s singles badminton event at the Paris Games.
In addition to Prannoy, the MOC also approved proposals from athletes Vikash Singh, Suraj Panwar, Ankita Dhyani, Sarvesh Kushare, and shooter Anantjeet Singh Naruka for financial assistance to acquire various training and competition equipment.
The MOC has also extended financial support to Indian rifle shooter Rudrankksh Patil, who will receive assistance for his training in Serbia for the 50m 3P event. This training will span a period of 20 days.
Rudrankksh, who is now training for both the 50m 3P and 10m air rifle events, will be training under 2020 Olympic bronze medalist Sebic Milenko in Serbia. This will enable him to gain a deeper understanding of the basics of the 50m 3P event, enhancing his performance in the upcoming games.
The Sports Ministry’s commitment to supporting these athletes financially is crucial in ensuring their success at the Paris Games. This initiative demonstrates the government’s dedication to empowering India’s athletes and helping them achieve their full potential on the international stage.
