India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has delivered a clear message regarding India’s future relationship with Pakistan, signaling a significant shift in the country’s diplomatic stance. During a book launch event in Delhi, Jaishankar declared that the era of uninterrupted dialogue between India and Pakistan is over. He attributed this change to the consequences of Pakistan’s actions and emphasized that India will not remain passive in the face of these actions.
Furthermore, Jaishankar definitively stated that Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, is ‘done.’ This statement serves as a stark reminder to Pakistan, which has persistently raised the issue of Article 370 on international platforms.
Jaishankar’s remarks clearly highlight a change in India’s diplomatic strategy towards Pakistan. While acknowledging that the nature of the future relationship remains open to consideration, he emphasized that India’s response to events will be decisive, regardless of whether they are positive or negative. This assertive tone indicates a departure from the previous policy of engaging in uninterrupted dialogue, regardless of Pakistan’s actions.
