The Indian T20 World Cup heroes, led by captain Rohit Sharma, boarded a special chartered Air India flight from Barbados on Tuesday to return to their homeland. As the World Champions are set to bring the T20 World Cup trophy back to India, their flight has become the most tracked flight on the flightradar website. The Air India flight, with the call sign AIC24WC, is bringing back the Indian heroes who were stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl.
The call sign itself holds a special significance. AIC represents Air India Chartered, while 24WC stands for the T20 World Cup 2024. This fitting call sign celebrates the Indian team’s victory in the recent tournament.
The flight is scheduled to land at Delhi airport on July 4th at 6 am. Rajya Sabha MP and BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed that the T20 World Cup winning Team India departed from Barbados on the special Air India flight, hired by the BCCI. He also mentioned that Indian journalists who were stranded in Barbados would be returning on the same flight.
Team India has a packed schedule upon their arrival on Thursday. They will first meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 11 am at the Prime Minister’s residence. Following this, the team will fly to Mumbai. A grand roadshow from Nariman Point will be held in their honor, followed by a felicitation ceremony for the players.
According to a media report, Team India will participate in a 1 km long bus parade from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport to the iconic Wankhede Stadium. This will be followed by a small presentation ceremony where the Indian skipper will hand over the T20 World Cup trophy to BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
