India has announced their squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, and there are a few surprises. Rohit Sharma will lead the team, with Hardik Pandya as his deputy. Sanju Samson has beaten out KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik to be the second wicketkeeper. Rishabh Pant will likely start behind the stumps, with Samson serving as a backup.
There are a few notable absentees from the squad. KL Rahul has not played a T20I since the semi-final of the last T20 World Cup in November 2022. Shubman Gill has also missed out on a spot in the squad, with Yashasvi Jaiswal getting the nod as Rohit Sharma’s opening partner.
Shivam Dube has been included in the squad ahead of Rinku Singh. Dube has been in good form for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL this season, scoring 350 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 172.41 and average of 58.33. Rinku Singh has been in good form for India in the 15 T20Is that he has played, scoring 356 runs at a strike-rate of 176.23 and average of 89.00.
Yuzvendra Chahal returns to the squad and it could mean a potential return of the Kul-Cha combination if he is picked in the eleven along with Kuldeep Yadav.
