India’s T20 World Cup Winners to be Felicitated in Mumbai

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning a grand ceremony to celebrate India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup. The event will take place at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.

After arriving in Delhi on Thursday morning, the Indian team will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later that day, they will board a chartered flight to Mumbai, where BCCI secretary Jay Shah and other dignitaries will officially present the trophy to captain Rohit Sharma and his team.

To allow fans to join in the celebrations, the BCCI is considering an open bus parade, similar to the one held after the 2007 World T20 victory. However, due to security and traffic concerns, the parade is likely to be limited to a one-kilometer stretch along Marine Drive.

The Wankhede Stadium is being prepared for the event, but it remains unclear if the public will be allowed access, as they were during the 2007 celebrations.

The team’s return was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl, which stranded them in Barbados. The BCCI secretary, demonstrating his commitment to the team and media personnel, arranged for a special chartered flight to bring the stranded Indian media back to the country. Approximately 20 media personnel were caught in the Caribbean due to airport closures caused by the hurricane.
