IndiGo has issued an apology following complaints from passengers on a Delhi-Varanasi flight regarding discomfort due to an alleged malfunction of the air conditioning system. A video of the chaotic situation on flight 6E 2235 went viral on Thursday, showcasing passengers struggling with intense heat and suffocation. Reports indicate that several passengers fainted due to the uncomfortable conditions, while others resorted to using magazines to cool themselves.
While IndiGo has denied an AC malfunction, they acknowledge a temperature shift that caused the cabin to heat up. In a statement, the airline explained that the cabin temperature was adjusted in response to passenger requests. “The discomfort was attributed to fluctuations in cabin temperature, which were adjusted in response to passenger requests. Our cabin crew promptly extended assistance to the affected passenger to address the situation,” IndiGo stated.
This incident echoes a similar situation in June on a Delhi-Bagdogra flight. Passengers on that flight also reported AC malfunctions, leading to breathing difficulties and a delay. IndiGo attributed that delay to “high ground temperatures” hindering operations.
The recent incident highlights the importance of ensuring comfortable and safe cabin environments for passengers. While IndiGo claims to prioritize passenger safety, these incidents raise concerns about potential inconsistencies in the airline’s handling of such situations. It remains to be seen whether IndiGo will implement further measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
