In recent years, the fashion industry has witnessed an influx of talented Asian designers making their mark on the global stage. From Peter Do’s appointment as creative director of Helmut Lang to the viral success of Vietnamese brands La Lune and Fanci Club, the East has emerged as a hub of creativity and innovation.
Indonesia has followed suit, becoming a melting pot of unbridled creativity and innovation in the fashion realm. At Plaza Indonesia Fashion Week 2024, 75 of Indonesia’s most notable brands showcased their latest collections, among which two stood out: DIBBA and Artkea.
DIBBA, founded by 35-year-old designer Faisal Shah, seamlessly blends Eastern embroidery techniques with svelte Western tailoring. Each collection explores the harmonious fusion of these contrasting aesthetics, reimagining silhouettes and cuts.
Artkea, on the other hand, is a heritage brand that prides itself on breaking the mold of traditional modest wear. Led by architect-turned-entrepreneur Arvi Anangga Sardadi and his three sisters, Artkea offers five distinct sub-lines: Bloom, Lace, Stripes, Colours, and Classic, each with its unique design identity while remaining cohesive with the brand’s overall aesthetic.
Both DIBBA and Artkea embody the spirit of creativity and entrepreneurship that is driving Indonesia’s fashion industry forward. DIBBA’s fusion of cultures and Artkea’s modern interpretation of tradition showcase the diversity and innovation that Indonesian designers are bringing to the global fashion landscape.
