Cellato’s Byakuya: A Symphony of Luxury
In 2023, Cellato, a Japanese brand renowned for its ultra-luxurious ice cream, achieved a Guinness World Record for the most expensive ice cream globally. Their creation, Byakuya, is priced at a staggering ¥873,400 (approximately $6,696) for a mere 130 ml serving. This exquisite dessert blends imported white truffles from Alba, Italy, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, and sake lees. Described as a rich and smooth gelato, the recipe is finished with white truffles and Parmesan cheese adorned with gold leaf. The exorbitant price is primarily attributed to the cost of the truffles, which can reach up to $15,200 per kilogram. To complete the luxurious experience, the ice cream is packaged with white truffle oil and accompanied by a handcrafted metal spoon, utilizing materials from the temples and shrines of Kyoto.
