Infosys’ CTO Encourages Engineering Students to Master AI for Career Success

Infosys’ Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Rafee Tarafdar, has underscored the critical role of artificial intelligence (AI) for engineering students as they prepare to enter the professional world. Speaking at the Moneycontrol and CNBC-TV18 AI Alliance NCR Chapter, Tarafdar stressed that individuals entering the workforce from non-software engineering backgrounds must embrace AI. He emphasized that proficiency in AI tools can significantly enhance productivity and value.

To support this imperative, Infosys has launched a sales assistant for its client-facing team members. This tool empowers them to fine-tune models, develop new techniques, and build AI-led solutions. Tarafdar believes that by focusing on creating such solutions, professionals can become highly relevant to the industry.

Tarafdar also highlighted Infosys’ commitment to fostering AI proficiency. He said, “We have created innovative learning techniques using large language models, called Socrative learning, where you reason it out… it gives you examples to do adaptive learning.” The company’s investment in AI education is evident in its sales assistant and the vast information accessible to client-facing teams.

Tarafdar’s counsel resonates with the insights of Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy, who previously acknowledged the potential of AI to reshape the job market. Murthy asserted that the human mind remains the most powerful tool, emphasizing the need for smart integration of AI as an assistive tool.
