Inheritance Tax Debate Heats Up, Opposition’s Remarks Draw Fire

The issue of inheritance tax and wealth redistribution has taken center stage in the ongoing political discourse, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leaders engaging in a heated exchange. The debate was sparked by remarks from Indian Overseas Congress president Sam Pitroda, suggesting a discussion on inheritance tax. Modi seized on these comments, accusing the Opposition party of attempting to seize people’s wealth and tax them even after their death.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh countered these accusations by highlighting past statements from BJP leaders, including former finance minister Arun Jaitley, who expressed support for the concept of inheritance tax. Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party founder Sharad Pawar condemned Modi’s attacks on a particular community, calling them unacceptable and shameful.

Other political figures have also weighed in on various issues. Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav criticized Modi’s remarks on the mangalsutra, while Bharat Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrashekar Rao launched a 17-day bus yatra to campaign for the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The Enforcement Directorate has submitted its response to a petition filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, denying allegations of malicious intent in his arrest and attributing it to his uncooperative attitude. The ongoing debate and exchange of accusations have further intensified the political atmosphere, making it a key issue in the upcoming elections.
