Intel Cancels Beast Lake: Gaming Chip Dreams Dashed

Remember the buzz around Intel’s Beast Lake processors? These were touted as high-performance gaming chips that promised to revolutionize the industry. But that excitement has been squashed by news of the project’s cancellation.

The news comes from the YouTube leaker Moore’s Law is Dead (MLID), who was initially the one to break the news about Beast Lake. The chip was designed to be a powerhouse, featuring four ‘extra big’ cores for incredible performance and 32 efficiency cores for optimal power management. This combination could have seriously boosted gaming frame rates, making it a true competitor to AMD’s X3D silicon.

While the Beast Lake project is dead, MLID clarifies that the technologies behind it, like the Royal Core architecture and ‘rentable units’, are still in development and will be integrated into other CPU ranges. This includes the Nova Lake series, which has been rumored previously.

This news comes at a time when Intel is facing negative press surrounding stability issues, potentially impacting the sales of their next-gen Arrow Lake processors. Consumers are losing trust in Intel, and the cancellation of Beast Lake adds another blow.

With Beast Lake off the table, the gaming CPU landscape is reshaped. Intel’s plans to compete head-on with AMD’s X3D silicon have been scrapped. The upcoming Arrow Lake processors may even face off against AMD’s Ryzen 9000 X3D chips, depending on the respective launch schedules. This further underscores the challenges Intel faces in reclaiming its position as a gaming performance leader.
