Intel is gearing up to release its next-generation Core Ultra 200 series ‘Arrow Lake-S’ desktop CPUs, with rumors pointing towards an October 10th launch. While the official Intel Innovation 2024 event has been postponed, sources suggest that Intel plans to launch the Arrow Lake-S series on this date.
It’s unclear whether the October 10th event will be a full launch or just a preliminary announcement. However, Intel previously confirmed that Arrow Lake-S desktop processors were on track for a Q4 2024 launch, even after delaying the original Intel Innovation 2024 event from September 2024 to sometime in 2025.
This launch will bring a wave of new features and advancements. Intel will unveil its Core Ultra 200 series CPUs alongside new 800-series motherboards, led by the flagship Z890 chipset. The new processors will utilize a brand-new LGA 1851 socket, requiring a motherboard upgrade for compatibility. Another significant change is the exclusive support for DDR5 memory, with no DDR4 compatibility on this new platform.
The flagship Core Ultra 9 285K processor will boast 8 performance cores (P-Cores) and 16 efficiency cores (E-Cores), resulting in a total of 24 cores and 24 threads. Notably, Arrow Lake does not support Hyper-Threading. The processor is expected to achieve a boost clock speed of up to 5.7GHz.
While the Core Ultra 9 285K’s clock speed may fall short of the 6.2GHz peak achieved by the current-gen 14th Gen Core i9-14900KS processor, Intel promises significant IPC (Instructions Per Cycle) performance improvements. This means that the 5.7GHz boost on the Core Ultra 9 285K will still deliver impressive performance compared to the high-frequency 14900KS.
The launch of Intel’s Core Ultra 200 series ‘Arrow Lake-S’ desktop CPUs signifies a major leap forward in computing power and efficiency. The redesigned architecture, new socket, and exclusive DDR5 support pave the way for a new era of high-performance computing.
