Inter Milan showcased their dominance with a resounding 4-0 victory over Atalanta in a Serie A clash on Friday. This win marked the defending champions’ second consecutive home victory in the league.
Inter, who had previously drawn against Genoa and secured a 2-0 win over Lecce, started the match with an aggressive intent. They capitalized on early opportunities, scoring twice within the first ten minutes. The opening goal came just three minutes into the match when Marcus Thuram’s low cross deflected off Atalanta’s Berat Djimsiti into the net.
Nicolo Barella doubled the lead in the 7th minute with a spectacular volley from the edge of the box. This early lead set the tone for the rest of the match, as Inter maintained their control and exploited Atalanta’s defensive vulnerabilities.
The second half saw a similar story unfold, with Thuram finding the back of the net twice in a similar fashion. His quick reactions and opportunistic finishes in the 47th and 56th minutes sealed the rout.
Thuram, who was named man-of-the-match, expressed his delight after the game. “It is only week 3, this is not a signal to anyone. We tried to put in a good performance against a very difficult opponent, so we are very happy,” he stated. “Bare’ only scores spectacular goals! He does it in training all the time and I’m really happy for him,” he added about Barella’s stunning strike.
Inter’s impressive performance has propelled them to the top of the Serie A table with seven points after three matches. They will face Monza after the international break, while Atalanta will be looking to bounce back against Fiorentina at home.
