Introducing Sonos Roam 2: Enhancements to a Portable Audio Icon

Sonos Unveils Enhanced Sonos Roam 2 Portable Wireless Speaker

In addition to introducing its first headphones, the Sonos Ace, Sonos has quietly released the second generation of its popular portable wireless speaker, the Sonos Roam 2. Since its launch in 2021, the Sonos Roam has been a top choice on the market due to its portability, exceptional sound quality, and ability to connect to both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi networks, enabling integration with the Sonos system.

The Sonos Roam 2 largely retains the design of its predecessor, which is a testament to the original’s success. However, it incorporates several notable enhancements. The front logo has been redesigned to match the speaker’s color, which now includes Olive, Sunset, Wave, black, and white (replacing Lunar White).

Another significant improvement is the addition of a dedicated Bluetooth button on the back of the speaker. This feature addresses a common frustration among owners of the first-generation model, who had to hold down the power/pairing button precisely to initiate pairing mode. The Sonos Roam 2 now allows for effortless Bluetooth pairing directly out of the box, eliminating the need to set up the speaker through the Sonos app first.

Apart from these changes, the Sonos Roam 2 maintains the same impressive features as before. It boasts an IP67 dust and water resistance rating, a 10-hour battery life, AirPlay 2 support, and automatic Trueplay tuning to optimize audio performance for any environment.

One notable difference between the Sonos Roam 2 and its predecessor is the absence of Google Assistant support. This omission stems from the ongoing legal dispute between Sonos and Google. However, the speaker still supports Amazon Alexa and Sonos’ own voice assistant.

In conjunction with the launch of the Sonos Ace and Sonos Roam 2, Sonos is also rolling out an update to its Sonos app. This update includes improvements to the screen reader and VoiceOver features, as well as the ability to add and edit alarms, a previously missing feature that many users had requested.

The Sonos Roam 2 is now available for purchase at a price of $179.
