The G 580 features a substantial 116 kWh battery pack that powers four electric motors, one for each wheel. This configuration grants the vehicle exceptional torque vectoring and electronic differential locks, enhancing its terrain-taming abilities. Each motor is coupled with a two-speed transmission, providing a reduced gear low range ideal for rock crawling. The G-Wagon also boasts an impressive “Rock” crawling mode, demonstrating its unwavering off-road spirit.
To conquer challenging terrain, the electric G-Wagon boasts impressive approach, departure, and breakover angles, enabling it to navigate steep hills and obstacles with ease. Additionally, a proprietary carbon fiber composite cover, stronger than aluminum or steel, safeguards the battery pack and motors while reducing weight. The electric G-Wagon inherits its suspension system from its gas-powered counterpart, incorporating modifications to accommodate the electric motors. All four motors are mounted to the frame and connected to the wheels via dual-joint driveshafts, maintaining consistent wheel camber even under extreme compression. This design ensures optimal tire contact, essential for maintaining stability on uneven terrain.
The electric G-Wagon’s water-fording capabilities have been enhanced, allowing it to traverse up to 33.5 inches of water, surpassing the gas-powered models. On steep inclines, the G-Wagon can handle gradients of up to 35 degrees without losing traction.
