Invenergy Completes 10th Battery Storage Project in Arizona, Adding 200 MW of Clean Energy

Invenergy, a leading developer of sustainable energy solutions, has announced the completion of its 10th battery energy storage project in Arizona, the El Sol Energy Storage Center. This 50 MW facility brings Invenergy’s total storage portfolio in the state to nearly 200 MW, representing almost half of all storage projects coming online in Arizona since the start of 2023.

The El Sol project is a significant step forward in Arizona’s efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources. The state has experienced a surge in demand for clean energy, driven by factors like the increasing adoption of renewable energy sources and the need for more reliable and affordable electricity.

The project has been developed for Arizona Public Service (APS) and is located in Maricopa and Yuma Counties. It is expected to provide significant benefits to the local community, including millions of dollars in investment, job creation, and increased revenue.

Brian Cole, Vice President of Resource Management at APS, highlighted the importance of the project in meeting the increasing energy demands of Arizona residents, particularly during the summer months when temperatures soar. The project is seen as crucial in ensuring reliable and affordable electricity for Arizona’s growing population.

The project has also received support from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Resiliency, who emphasized the importance of private sector-led growth in the clean energy sector.

In addition to the El Sol project, Invenergy has several other solar and storage projects in development throughout Arizona. The company is investing heavily in the state, aiming to further enhance its clean energy capacity and provide clean electricity to over 40,000 homes annually.

Frank Macchiarola, Chief Policy Officer for the American Clean Power Association (ACP), emphasized the growing necessity of energy storage for communities across the state. Storage technologies are essential in maximizing the benefits of renewable energy sources, such as solar power, by allowing for the use of stored energy when the sun is not shining.

Invenergy’s commitment to clean energy extends beyond Arizona. The company has a vast portfolio of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, and storage facilities, spanning across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. With a strong focus on sustainability and innovation, Invenergy is actively contributing to a cleaner and more reliable energy future.
