IOC President Thomas Bach to Step Down in 2025

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach announced on Saturday that he will not seek to remain in the post after the end of his second term in 2025. Despite calls from members to stay on, Bach, a German lawyer who has been in charge since 2013, has decided to step down.

Bach explained that he was asked to continue, but he felt it was important to respect the Olympic Charter’s limitation of 12 years for the president. “New times are calling for new leaders,” he told the IOC session.

The new IOC president will be elected in March 2025 at the session in ancient Olympia. Currently, no member has publicly declared their candidacy to succeed Bach.
