iOS 18.1 Beta Brings Apple Intelligence Features to iPhone 15 Pro

If you’re part of the Apple Developer program and have been testing the iOS 18 beta on your iPhone, get ready for the latest update: iOS 18.1. This significant release brings Apple Intelligence features to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Currently, the iOS 18.1 beta is only available to developers. A public beta is expected soon.

To utilize the new features, you’ll need the iOS 18.1 beta installed on an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max, as these are the only iPhones capable of running Apple Intelligence. While iOS 18 can be installed on devices as old as the iPhone XS, these specific models are limited in terms of Apple Intelligence compatibility. iPad owners can also enjoy the benefits of iPadOS 18.1, as long as their device has an M1 chip or later.

While Apple Intelligence offers a plethora of useful tools, the initial iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 betas only include a select few. Here’s a breakdown of what’s currently accessible:

Writing Tools:

This feature enables you to rewrite, proofread, and summarize text within various applications. You can utilize it in first-party apps like Mail, Notes, Pages, and even third-party apps.

Siri:

The new Siri interface incorporates glowing lights around the screen edges. You can now switch between text and voice interactions with Siri. Support extends to iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. Siri has improved understanding of users who stumble over words and can now maintain context from one request to another.

Mail:

The Mail app features a new section at the top for urgent emails. You can view email summaries without opening them. Smart Reply suggests quick responses and identifies questions within emails.

Reduce Interruptions:

This is a new Focus mode that prioritizes notifications requiring immediate attention.

Photos:

You can utilize natural language to search photos and videos. Search videos for specific moments and create new Memories by typing descriptions.

Transcriptions:

Summarize transcripts.

It’s important to note that these are not all the features available within Apple Intelligence. Additional features, including the Image Playground generator, Genmoji, Priority Notifications, on-screen contextual awareness for Siri, and ChatGPT integration, are expected to be released at a later, undisclosed date.

The first iOS 18.1 developer beta is available now for registered members of the Apple Developer program, which is free to join. The public beta for iOS 18.1 is expected to follow at a later date.
