Bend Durability Tests Reveal Resilience of iPad Pro (2024) Models
As with every new iPad release, organizations have swiftly conducted bend durability tests on the latest 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro (2024) models. These tests, performed by JerryRigEverything, AppleTrack, and MobileReviewEh, have delivered encouraging results, highlighting the enhanced rigidity of these devices despite their remarkably thin profiles.
The 11-inch iPad Pro (2024) measures a mere 0.21 inches in depth, while the 13-inch model boasts an even slimmer profile of 0.20 inches. These dimensions represent a significant reduction compared to their predecessors, which were 0.23 inches and 0.25 inches thick, respectively.
During the tests, the testers applied pressure to the tablets from both the front and back. While the devices exhibited some vulnerability when bent from the front, they consistently held up well when pressure was applied from the back. This enhanced resilience can be attributed to the metal rib running along the middle of the tablet, which provides increased rigidity and aids in heat dissipation.
It was observed that vertical bending posed a greater challenge than horizontal bending. Furthermore, the cameras and touchscreens remained functional after each test. It was only when pushed to their absolute limits that the tablet’s glass shattered. These findings demonstrate the durability of the iPad Pro (2024) models, even under extreme conditions.
The impressive performance of these tablets in bend durability tests is particularly noteworthy considering their thinness and lightness. The 11-inch model weighs just under a pound, while the 13-inch model weighs 1.28 pounds. These weight reductions, combined with the enhanced durability, underscore Apple’s commitment to creating thinner iPads without compromising their resilience.
While the average user is unlikely to intentionally subject their iPad to such extreme bending forces, these tests provide valuable insights into the overall durability of the devices. They also demonstrate Apple’s continued efforts to innovate and improve the durability of its flagship tablets, even as they strive for thinner and lighter designs.
