iPhone 16 Pro Max Battery Upgrade: Increased Energy Density and Stainless Steel Case

The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max is rumored to feature a significant battery upgrade, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The device is expected to boast a battery cell with increased energy density, which translates to either longer battery life for the same battery size or the possibility of a smaller battery size while maintaining the same battery life.

This enhancement is especially crucial given rumors suggesting that the iPhone 16 Pro Max may sport a larger 6.9-inch display, requiring a more power-hungry panel. To accommodate this, increasing the battery’s energy density is a wise move to ensure adequate battery life.

In addition to the improved battery cell, Apple is also reportedly utilizing a new stainless steel battery case for heat dissipation. While stainless steel is not as effective as aluminum in heat dissipation, it offers greater strength and corrosion resistance, potentially justifying Apple’s choice of material. The new stainless steel battery shell is expected to be supplied by Xinwei Communications.

Kuo speculates that if the new battery design with the upgraded energy density and stainless steel case proves successful, the next generation of iPhones in 2025 (presumably the iPhone 17) could adopt this technology across all models.

Beyond the battery upgrade, the iPhone 16 series is also anticipated to receive design changes. The base iPhone 16 model is rumored to adopt a vertical pill-shaped camera island, while the iPhone 16 Pro models may receive an enlarged Action Button and a new Capture Button. The overall design of the Pro models is expected to remain similar to the previous generation.
