Get ready for another round of intense bidding! The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced some exciting news for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. All 10 teams will have the opportunity to retain up to six players, including one ‘Right to Match’ card. This means they can match any other team’s bid for a player they want to keep.
But the excitement doesn’t end there! The BCCI is also exploring the possibility of holding the mega auction overseas. Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is leading the race to host the event, with Muscat and Doha also being considered. This would mark a significant change from the previous mega auction held in India in 2022.
While the exact dates haven’t been finalized, BCCI officials have hinted at two potential windows: the second week of November or the third week of December. This follows the recent mini-auction held in Dubai, making it the first time an IPL auction took place outside India. That auction saw some record-breaking bids, with Mitchell Starc fetching a whopping Rs. 24.75 crore from Kolkata Knight Riders and Pat Cummins being acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 20.50 crore. It also marked a historic moment with Mallika Sagar becoming the first female auctioneer in the IPL’s 16-year history.
The previous mega auction in 2022 saw a record-breaking bid for Ishan Kishan, who was acquired by the Mumbai Indians for Rs. 15.25 crore. As the anticipation builds for the next mega auction, all eyes will be on the BCCI’s decision regarding the venue and the fierce competition that will unfold as teams aim to build their squads for the upcoming season.
