The 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took place in Bengaluru on Sunday, resulting in key decisions for the Indian Premier League (IPL). Arun Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya were re-elected as representatives to the IPL Governing Council. Adding to the Council, V. Chamundeswaranath, a former India First-Class cricketer, was nominated by the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) as the player representative.
A major highlight of the AGM was the approval of changes to the player auction cycle for the years 2025-2027. These changes include provisions for player retentions, right to match, salary cap, and most significantly, an increase in the reserve prices for all cricketers.
The minimum base price for capped cricketers has been raised from Rs. 50 lakh to Rs. 75 lakh, while that for uncapped cricketers has been increased from Rs. 20 lakh to Rs. 30 lakh. This means that the five brackets for capped players in the 2025 auction will be Rs. 75 lakh, Rs. 1 crore, Rs. 1.125 crore, Rs 1.50 crore and Rs. 2 crore. Uncapped players will fall into categories of Rs. 30 lakh, Rs. 40 lakh and Rs. 50 lakh.
These updates to the player auction process are expected to influence the strategies of teams during the 2025 auction and potentially impact the composition of squads in the coming years.
