Ipswich Town is on the cusp of securing automatic promotion to the Premier League after a hard-fought 2-1 victory away at Coventry City on Tuesday night. The Tractor Boys are now just a point behind second-placed Leeds United with only one game remaining in the regular Championship season. A draw at home to already-relegated Huddersfield Town on Saturday will be enough to secure their return to the top flight for the first time since the 2001/02 season. Ipswich made a dream start to the match, with Kieffer Moore putting them ahead inside the opening 10 minutes. However, Coventry grew into the game and pulled level courtesy of Haji Wright just after the hour mark. But it was center-back Cameron Burgess who emerged as the unlikely hero for Ipswich, scoring less than five minutes later to secure the three points. The win takes Ipswich to 27 league victories for the season, making them the first newly promoted side in second-tier history to achieve this feat. They are now on the verge of securing historic back-to-back promotions after winning League One last season. Ipswich will host Huddersfield Town at Portman Road on Saturday, while Coventry will travel to the Coventry Building Society Arena to face QPR in their final game of the season. Both matches will kick off at 12.30 pm.
