Iran has denounced Argentina’s request for the arrest of its Interior Minister, Ahmad Vahidi, who is accused of playing a role in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani warned Argentina against making unfounded allegations against foreign citizens, referencing the influence of Iran’s foes in the matter.
Argentina’s push to hold Iran responsible for the attack comes as it aligns its foreign policy more closely with Israel, a staunch adversary of Iran. The recent ruling by Argentina’s highest criminal court stating that the Iranian government and Hezbollah were responsible for the 1994 attack has added fuel to the flames.
Vahidi’s abrupt return to Tehran from a trip to Southeast Asia sparked speculation that Argentina’s request had complicated his international travel. Despite the Interpol red notice, Pakistani authorities have yet to comment on the situation. Argentina’s efforts to pursue the arrests of accused Iranian officials through Interpol notices have faced challenges in the past, highlighting the complexities surrounding this ongoing pursuit of justice.
