Despite Robinson’s absence due to injury, Hartenstein stepped into the starting role and averaged 7.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 1.1 blocks, and 2.5 assists per game. His impressive performances cemented his position as the starting center for the Eastern Conference’s second-best team.
Meanwhile, Robinson, a homegrown talent drafted by the Knicks, has established himself as an elite shot-blocker and offensive rebounder. His contributions in the recent playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers were instrumental in the Knicks’ victory. He held All-Star center Joel Embiid scoreless in the fourth quarter and played a significant role in limiting Embiid’s overall effectiveness.
While Robinson excels in shot-blocking and physical defense, Hartenstein complements him with his offensive awareness and ability to avoid foul trouble. Together, their strengths neutralize opponents like Embiid, who can dominate in the paint but also shoot from deep.
The Knicks face a challenge in retaining Hartenstein as a free agent, but his enjoyment of playing in New York and his crucial role on a top team may keep him in orange and blue. If the Knicks can part ways with Precious Achiuwa and Alec Burks, they may have a chance of convincing Hartenstein to stay.
