Israel-Hamas Conflict Escalates: Gaza Struck by Israeli Rockets, Casualties Rise

The renewed violence erupted after a two-day hiatus following an order from the International Court of Justice for Israel to halt its operations to safeguard civilians. On Sunday, the Israeli army reported that eight rockets had been fired from Rafah toward central Israel, including Tel Aviv, which had not been targeted in months. Meanwhile, under a new agreement, dozens of aid trucks crossed into Gaza from southern Israel, bypassing the Rafah crossing with Egypt, which had been taken over by Israeli forces earlier this month. However, it remained uncertain whether humanitarian organizations could access the aid due to ongoing fighting. The Gaza Health Ministry reported that nearly 36,000 Palestinians had been killed in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, with civilian and fighter casualties undistinguished in their count. Israel attributed civilian deaths to Hamas, citing their operation in densely populated areas. The conflict has displaced approximately 80% of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents, leading to widespread hunger and famine conditions in parts of the territory, according to United Nations officials.
