IT Professional Commits Suicide After Alleged Harassment by Manager in Pune

A 36-year-old IT professional, Vishal Pramod Salvi, tragically ended his life by jumping into a riverbed in Bopodi, Pune, after allegedly enduring relentless harassment and humiliation at the hands of his manager, Zeeshan Haider. The incident, reported by the Free Press Journal, unfolded on June 21, 2024, but the case was officially registered on July 21, following a complaint lodged by Vishal’s sister, Preeti Amit Kamble, at the Khadki Police Station.

Salvi, who had recently been dismissed from his job at an IT company located in Yerwada, cited the manager’s persistent threats and public humiliation as the primary reasons for his drastic action. Prior to his death, Vishal left behind a note expressing his despair and attributing his suicide to the relentless harassment inflicted by his manager. He also posted a picture of Haider on his WhatsApp status.

According to the FIR, Vishal, who had worked at the IT company for ten years, was subjected to consistent harassment and humiliation by Zeeshan Haider in front of his colleagues. The FIR also alleges that Haider had threatened Vishal with dismissal prior to actually terminating his employment.

Following his termination, Vishal took his own life on the night of June 21. Preeti, his sister, alleged in the FIR that after writing the letter, Vishal ended his life.

Pune Police have registered a case against Haider under Section 306 (Abetment of Suicide) of the Indian Penal Code for inciting Vishal to take his own life. While the accused has not yet been arrested, police have launched an investigation and assured that appropriate action will be taken against the culprit.
