The World Jai-Alai League is marking this momentous occasion with a captivating multimedia exhibit at the HistoryMiami Museum, opening its doors to the public on August 29th. This free exhibit, running until November 10th, will chronicle the sport’s evolution, showcasing its rise to prominence, subsequent decline, and recent resurgence. The exhibit promises a captivating journey through time, highlighting the sport’s marketing strategies, the South Florida frontons that have hosted legendary matches, key figures who shaped its trajectory, and the ongoing revival that is attracting a new generation of fans.
Scott Savin, Chief Operating Officer of the World Jai-Alai League, aptly describes the exhibit’s significance, stating, “As jai-alai’s legacy endures in Miami—a city renowned for its speed, passion, and culture—the centennial exhibit brings this electrifying sport back into the spotlight, reminding everyone of the excitement that made it a beloved part of South Florida life.”
To coincide with the centennial celebration, the World Jai-Alai League is kicking off its Battle Court Fall 2024 season on September 2nd. This 15-week competition will witness six teams vying for the championship title. Battle Court Jai-Alai, a modern iteration of the traditional game, boasts a faster pace and updated rules designed to appeal to contemporary audiences. Each team is backed by an owner, a general manager, and a designated charity, fostering a sense of community and purpose. The league employs a dedicated team of 40 full-time athletes who participate in over 500 Battle Court matches annually. These matches are broadcast on ESPN3, offering a wider audience the chance to witness the electrifying action.
In addition to televised coverage, fans can also engage with the sport through popular sports betting platforms such as DraftKings Sportsbook, BetRivers (Rush Street Interactive), and FanDuel, adding a layer of excitement and engagement to the matches. For those looking for an immersive experience, live Jai-Alai matches will be held every Friday evening at 7 p.m. from September 6th through December 13th at the Magic City Fronton.
