Jaishankar: Trump’s Win Could Disrupt World Order, But India Can Benefit

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has stated that Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential elections could have significant implications for the global order. Speaking to reporters in Sydney during his visit to Australia, Jaishankar acknowledged that while unpredictable shifts may occur, India is well-positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities.

“We anticipate cooperation under the Trump administration… there is a huge trade opportunity for India,” Jaishankar noted, underscoring the potential for enhanced economic relations between India and the US.

Jaishankar’s trip to Australia also involved high-level talks aimed at further strengthening the India-Australia bilateral relationship. He met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, conveying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings and discussing ways to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

Additionally, Jaishankar held discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Winston Peters, focusing on cooperation in key sectors such as education, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges. They also explored opportunities for collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region and discussed global issues of mutual interest.

Jaishankar’s diplomatic outreach extended to the Australia-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, where he commended their efforts to strengthen political, economic, and cultural ties between India and Australia. He also met with Peter Dutton, the leader of the Liberal Party of Australia, to discuss global matters and praised Dutton’s commitment to enhancing India-Australia relations.

Beyond Australia, Jaishankar’s diplomatic agenda took him to the UAE, where he met with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the UAE. This engagement underscored India’s ongoing efforts to build strong regional partnerships with key players in the Middle East.

After concluding his visit to Australia and the UAE, Jaishankar is set to travel to Singapore, where he will address the 8th Roundtable of the ASEAN-India Network of Think Tanks. He will also meet with Singaporean leaders to review and strengthen the India-Singapore partnership.

Jaishankar’s tour highlights India’s proactive foreign policy and its strategic approach to building strong diplomatic relationships across key regions, ensuring that the country remains a key player in the evolving global landscape.
