Jake and Sean’s Property Journey

We recently visited Jake Cohen’s new build in Greater Manchester, where he and his partner Sean have successfully navigated the property market and secured their dream home.

At just 29 years old, Jake has been working diligently as a Senior UX designer in corporate banking. Together with his partner, they have been able to purchase a £267,000 property in Horwich, Greater Manchester.

Jake and Sean’s journey to homeownership began in 2017 when Jake started saving for a deposit. He utilized a Lifetime ISA, which provided a £4,000 government bonus, and took advantage of high-interest savings accounts to maximize his earnings. Additionally, he engaged in side hustles and cashback offers to supplement his savings.

The couple was fortunate to receive a £7,000 incentive from the property developer Bellway, which they allocated towards furniture and home upgrades. This allowed them to personalize their space and create a comfortable and welcoming environment.

Jake highlights the importance of consistency in saving for a deposit. He emphasizes that setting aside a specific amount each month and treating it as a regular bill is crucial. He also recommends exploring government schemes like Lifetime ISAs to maximize savings.

The property itself is a two-bedroom new build situated in a former industrial area that is undergoing a multi-million-pound regeneration project. It offers a modern and spacious living space with ample storage and a garden that Jake and Sean plan to enhance.

The couple has chosen a minimalist interior decor style, featuring a neutral color palette and smart lighting that allows them to customize the ambiance of their home. Their favorite room is the kitchen, which boasts French doors that flood the space with natural light.

Jake and Sean are thrilled with their new home and see it as an investment in their future. They have no immediate plans to move and may consider upsizing in the years to come.
