The second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections is underway today, September 25th, 2024. Voters across six districts in the Union Territory are heading to the polls to cast their ballots. This phase involves a total of 239 candidates vying for seats in three districts of the Kashmir Valley – Ganderbal, Srinagar, and Budgam – and three districts in the Jammu region – Reasi, Rajouri, and Poonch.
Over 25.78 lakh voters (2.5 million) are eligible to participate in this crucial phase of the elections. The fate of several prominent candidates hangs in the balance, including former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, JKPCC president Tariq Hamid Karra, and BJP J-K chief Ravinder Raina.
Jammu and Kashmir’s Assembly elections are being held in three phases. The first phase, which took place on September 18th, saw voting for 24 seats with a turnout of 61.13%. The third and final phase is scheduled for October 1st, covering 40 seats. The counting of votes for all three phases will take place on October 8th.
