Jamshedpur FC Extends Doungel’s Contract, India’s Deaf Cricket Team Wins Series in England

Manipur’s talented midfielder, Seiminlen Doungel, has extended his stay with Jamshedpur FC, committing to the club until the end of the 2024-25 Indian Super League season. The club announced the news on Monday, highlighting Doungel’s crucial role in their success over the past four seasons. His contributions were particularly vital in their ISL Shield triumph in the 2021-22 season. The 30-year-old midfielder expressed his determination to help the club regain its top position in the ISL, stating, “I have unfinished business from the last two seasons and we need to get the club back on the top of the ISL table, a place that the Jharkhand fans deserve.” Doungel’s career in the ISL has been impressive, with stints at prominent clubs like FC Goa, Kerala Blasters, North East United, Bengaluru FC, Delhi Dynamos, and East Bengal. In his 63 appearances for Jamshedpur FC, he has scored five goals and provided one assist, further solidifying his impact on the team. Notably, Doungel is one of only six Indian players to achieve a hat-trick in the ISL, showcasing his scoring prowess.

Beyond his ISL contributions, Doungel has also tasted success in other leagues, winning the I-League in the 2015-16 season and the Federation Cup in 2012 and 2017. He was part of Bengaluru FC’s runner-up squad in the AFC Cup in 2016 and played a pivotal role in FC Goa’s 2019-20 ISL season, helping them secure the top spot in the league and the ISL Shield.

Meanwhile, in a remarkable display of skill and determination, India’s deaf cricket team celebrated a series win against England in the seventh and final T20 match, held in Leicester. The Indian team clinched the series with a resounding 5-2 victory. Abhishek Singh emerged as the man-of-the-match in the final game, while Sai Akash was awarded the player-of-the-series for his exceptional performance throughout the series.

Opting to bowl first, India restricted England to a score of 164 for 4 wickets. India then confidently chased down the target with four balls to spare, relying on half-centuries from Abhishek (68) and Umar Ashraf (56). Despite a shaky start, losing their first three wickets for just 46 runs, Abhishek and Ashraf formed a crucial 95-run partnership, stabilizing the innings and guiding their team to victory.
