Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is a vocal advocate for the Detroit Lions to extend quarterback Jared Goff’s contract. Goff’s deal expires after the 2024 season, and discussions between him and the team have commenced.
St. Brown expressed his admiration for Goff’s leadership and contributions to the Lions’ recent success, stating, “To see what he’s done with this Detroit football team from two years, three years ago to now; he’s winning games.” He emphasized Goff’s impressive statistics, placing him among the league’s top quarterbacks.
Since St. Brown’s arrival in 2021, the Lions have experienced a remarkable turnaround, winning the NFC North and reaching the NFC Championship Game in 2023. Goff’s performance has been pivotal in this resurgence, throwing for over 9,000 yards and 59 touchdowns in the past two years.
Spotrac estimates that Goff will command a four-year, $149.85 million contract ($37.4M per year). St. Brown believes this is a fair price for a player of Goff’s caliber, adding, “He’s accurate, he commands the offense, all the stuff you want in a quarterback.”
St. Brown, who is also due for a new contract, prioritizes Goff’s extension, acknowledging, “I want to make sure he’s locked in for many years to come first.”
