JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna Faces Rape Case, Sexual Abuse Probe Intensifies

In a significant development, the Karnataka Police have filed a rape case against JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna. This case is in addition to the ongoing sexual abuse investigation against Revanna, who is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.

According to reports, Prajwal Revanna is the sole accused in the FIR filed against him. This is the second case against the Hassan MP, who allegedly fled the country to Germany on April 27 following the Karnataka government’s formation of an SIT to investigate the allegations against him.

The probe against Revanna gained momentum after explicit video clips allegedly involving him began circulating, triggering widespread controversy. Previously, on April 28, Revanna and his father, H D Revanna MLA, were booked by the police on charges of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation.

Amidst these developments, Prajwal Revanna’s father, Revanna, has sought anticipatory bail from the People’s Representative Court after the SIT issued notices to him and his son to appear for questioning. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has strongly condemned Prajwal Revanna’s alleged actions, accusing him of raping 400 women. Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for seeking votes for a “mass rapist” and demanded an apology.

Meanwhile, the MEA has clarified that Prajwal Revanna traveled to Germany on a diplomatic passport but did not seek political clearance for his trip. The JD(S) party has suspended Revanna from the party pending further investigation. His uncle and former Karnataka chief minister, HD Kumaraswamy, has distanced himself from the MP.

Prajwal Revanna, 33, is the NDA candidate in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which went to polls on April 26. The SIT has issued a look-out notice against him, indicating that his arrest upon his return to India is likely imminent.
