Richie Richardson, the originally designated referee, was unable to officiate due to illness. Crowe oversaw the match remotely, leveraging a real-time feed and maintaining full communication with the Playing Control Team (PCT), as per the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Kumar Dharmasena and Ahsan Raza served as the on-field umpires, with Richard Illingworth filling the role of TV umpire. India’s Nitin Memon acted as the fourth umpire.
In a thrilling match, Afghanistan secured a 21-run victory over Australia, further solidifying their position in the tournament.
