The couple, who were recently spotted together enjoying a meal with their children, have reportedly engaged high-profile divorce attorney Laura Wasser to mediate their divorce.
According to Page Six, Lopez and Wasser arrived at the same time at a building in West Hollywood, where both have offices. While Affleck was not photographed, his car was reportedly parked in his assigned space. TMZ reports that the meeting took place in a “neutral” location within the building, rather than either of their individual offices.
This meeting comes at a crucial juncture in the divorce proceedings. The couple, who exchanged vows in a lavish ceremony just two years ago, did not sign a prenuptial agreement. This lack of a prenuptial agreement could potentially lead to a complicated and contentious divorce, especially considering their shared wealth and assets amassed during their marriage.
Under California law, all income and property acquired during a marriage are considered “community property,” regardless of who earned or purchased it. In the two years since their wedding, both Lopez and Affleck have been involved in multiple film projects and purchased a luxurious mansion in Beverly Hills. Lopez has also launched her own cocktail brand.
Lopez’s divorce filing reportedly stated that her assets with Affleck were “unknown.” Laura Wasser, a well-known attorney in the celebrity divorce world, has previously represented high-profile clients like Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, and Kim Kardashian. She also represented Affleck during his divorce from Jennifer Garner.
It is believed that Lopez has been consulting with Wasser regarding the divorce proceedings even before the official filing. The meeting with Affleck could signal a move towards resolving their differences and reaching a mutually agreeable settlement.
